Van Matre Properties Wisconsin
John Johnson Van Matre and several of his sons and later descendants settled in Fayette Township, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. although some of his descendants were most likely born on one of the home farms in Lafayette County, many of them were buried at Waldwick, which is located just over the county line in Ohio County, Wisconsin.
N.K. (Nathan Kelly) Van Matre owned property on the western boundary of Fayette Township and overflowed into Willow Springs Township.
Many webgens show the children being born in Waldwick. I’ve found no evidence that any of them lived or were born in Waldwick, although many of them were buried there. I’m assuming that the Waldwick Cemetery was closest to their farms and where there were family plots.
