Over the years, I have bookmarked many links that I use in my genealogy research. I have consolidated the ones I felt are the most helpful here in no particular order:
- Family Tree Magazine – 75 Best Genealogy Websites for US States in 2014
- No1Reviews.com – Reviews of the Best Genealogy Sites.
- USGenWeb Project. Broken down by state. I found some states are more active than others.
- WorldGenWeb Project – Includes links to regional websites: Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Central Europe, Ireland/United Kingdom, Mediterranean, Middle East, North America, Oceania, and South America.
- MyHeritage Free Search
- MyHeritage Free Software Download – Family Tree Builder software.
- FamilySearch.org – Free online database by LDS Church.
- Cyndi’s List – a Genealogy research site.
- Unified Census ED Finder – This site has helped me find family in the Federal Census where names were spelled wrong but I knew the address.
- SteveMorse.org – This site contains tools for finding immigration records, census records, vital records, and for dealing with calendars, maps, foreign alphabets, and numerous other applications.
- Family Tree Searcher – searches online family trees for matches.
- Library of Congress Chronicling America – Historic American Newspapers 1690-Present.
- National Archives – Resources for Genealogists
- National Archives UK – Resources for Genealogists researching family in United Kingdom.
- Google Maps Gallery – some fun Historical maps.
- Google Newspapers – A variety of Free Historical newspapers.
- The Ancestor Hunt – 15 Huge Lists of Free Online Newspaper Collections for Genealogy
- FamilyHistory.com – Thousands of Family Histories. Search database by state.
- FindaGrave.com – find an ancestors grave (may have obituary, relationships, etc), create a virtual memorial, add virtual flowers.
- Interment.net – Cemetery Records Online
- Commonwealth War Graves Commission – commemorates those who lost their lives during the two world wars. This may include civilians whose deaths were due to enemy action during the Second World War. Searchable database.

- Genealogy Relationship Chart “Second Cousin”, Once Removed”, and More Explained in Chart Form.
- Access Genealogy – One of the largest directories of genealogy websites found online.
- Olive Tree Genealogy – More free resources. Ships Passenger lists and Genealogy & Family Tree Resources.
- Nordic Names – Surnames in Nordic Countries. Also good explanation of Patronyms/Matronyms. Includes Danish, Faroese, Finnish, Greenlandic, Icelandic, Norwegian, Sami and Swedish Names.
- Geogen – Surname Mapping
- SearchforAncestors.com – Surname origins and Last Name Meanings.
- German Genealogy Group – This is a pay for service, currently $15.00 / yr. tax deductible. I have no experience with this one, but thought it might be worth adding for those with German Ancestry.
- Federation of Genealogical Societies
- GenealogyBuff.com – Obituary Collections by State.
- Forvo – A pronunciation guide for a variety of languages, including but not limited to German, Russian, Tatar, English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Polish, ….
- Historyworld.net – Find history about the area you are researching. Histories, timelines, etc.
- Records of the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany New York, 1683-1809
- Bureau of Land Management – US Dept. of the Interior General Land Office Records.
- Library and Archives Canada – Ancestors Search Page includes index of vital records, census, Immigration and Citizenship for Canada.
- Arkivverket Digitalarkivet – Denmark Digital Archives. Denmark has online digital church records that go back to the 1600’s. (you can view the actual record) and many are transcribed. Also find scanned census records from 1664 to 1910. In Danish but look for English Flag on some pages to get English page or use Google Translate.
- Dansk Demografisk Database – Denmark Censuses – Look for English Flag at top of page to go to English version.
- National Archives Norway – Norway
- Vital Event Indexes – a resource for the British Columbia Archives and includes indexes for historical births, deaths and marriages.
- 1901CensusOnline.com – Search millions of people living in England and Wales between 1841 – 1901.
- The Canadian County Atlas Digital Project – an online database from Ontario Canada Counties.
- Australian War Memorial – An extensive archive to commemorate those Australians who have died in war.
