Anthony John and Elizabeth Katherine (Doerr) Einck

Tony and Kate first settled in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa. He worked in construction and was later a builder contractor and it appears they rented for several years before purchasing their own home in Charles City. According to Donald Einck, he worked for the railroad during this time.

In 1932 they had purchased a farm in Jacksonville Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa and he became a farmer. Jacksonville Township is just north of New Hampton Township in Chickasaw County, Iowa.

After retiring from farming, they moved to New Hampton, Chickasaw County, Iowa.

Tony Einck Story

Written by Donald Einck

Tony Einck became friendly with Kate Doerr. The parents of these two farmed about one mile apart. In the winter they, along with Ben Einck who was courting Julie Doerr at the time, would often go back and forth to the two farms via the fields rather than around the road.

Tony and Kate were married February 4, 1913 and moved to Charles City, Ia. Where they lived in about four different houses that were located in the north area of Charles City.

Tony was a carpenter and he worked for the railroad. Oftentimes he would be gone on the railroad for many days at a time. When he did carpenter work, he would work six days each week and they were mostly from daylight until dark.

Times were hard and Tony land Kate felt they could provide a better living for their six daughters and two sons by living in the country. They bought 72 acres of land which was located north of New Hampton, Ia. For $75.00 per acre and moved there in 1932. Vera and Donald were in high school in Charles City. Vera finished high school in Charles City by working for the Melrose family. Donald did not continue high school when the parents moved to New Hampton as he was needed to help with the farming.

They all worked hard on the farm and made a good living. Eventually the children married spouses and left the family farm. For many years when there were only about four children married and some grand children had been born, the family assembled for some very delicious Sunday dinners at the farm with lots of laughter and enjoyment.

In 1958 Tony and Kate had a sale and sold the farm, machinery and home furnishings and moved to their retirement home in New Hampton, Ia.

Kate was beginning to have failing health. She expired on June 7, 1961. Tony continued to live in his retirement home in New Hampton until his death Dec. 30, 1962.
