Johann Adam Dörr Story

Johann Adam Dörr was a roof tile maker. In 1838, the family lived in Niederklein, in house number 105, where he had the oven for his tiles in the garden.

During Helen (Moeller) Franzen’s trip to Germany in 2002 to Niederklein, she took a picture of Johann Adam Dörr’s home and wrote: “Home of Johann Adam Dörr. My great great grandfather. His was one of 3 houses in Niederklein not destroyed by fire in the 1800’s. 12/3/02 Right side is house, left side was the barn part.”  The house to the front is #104. Photo Below:

Johann Adam Dörr House # 105 on the right

The community of Niederklein was mostly destroyed by fire on September 18, 1697, except for a few houses [see my post on Niederklein].

I assume that one of the three homes not destroyed by the fire on September 18, 1697 was later owned by Johann Adam Dörr.  [Helen Franzen comments on her photo that the fire was in the 1800’s. Perhaps there is more than one fire, however I’m speculating the home was built before the 1697 fire and is one of the few homes that survived.]

Holger Koch, (a German cousin) wrote that Johann Adam Dörr had seventeen children; eleven children by his first wife, Margareta Gruß, and six children by his second wife Maria Nahrgang, although I was unable to identify all of them. His direct ancestor, Johann Heinrich Dörr (half brother of Wilhelm) was the 10th child of Johann Adam and Margareta (Gruß) Doerr. So, the Unknown three siblings would have been born before him. See children listed below.

Johann Adam and Maria (Nahrgang) Dörr’s youngest three children, Elizabeth, Wilhelm and Christian emigrated to America, who I have followed.

The photo below was sent to me by Harald Dörr, Niederklein, Germany. This is one of the Roof Tiles that Johann Adam Dörr made. It reads:
